They just advertised the return to our screens of “Pie in the Sky” on UKTV Gold. I watched this when it was originally shown, about ’95 or so, looking back it was just another mediocre crimesolving show, nothing special.
It did get me thinking about these types of show, I mean, they are basically all the same show (probably “Murder She Wrote”) with a different “twist.”
They usually feature an unlikley hero that somehow out-thinks the Police and saves the day. When creating these shows its usually essential to come up with the most unlikely occupation for the lead character e.g. Ice-cream van driver, Goat-herd or Undertaker.
Here are some of my favourites
Murder She Wrote = Novelist and Solves Crimes!
Pie in the Sky = Chef and Solves Crimes!
Father Dowling = Priest and Solves Crimes!
Hetty Wainthropp = Busy-body, old lady and Solves Crimes!
