I love these crazy english translations on things.

“Green Garden Stakes are with fine colour and hardness in quality.

They are rich in elasticity, and widely used for supporting plants both at home and in gardens.

MADE IN CHINA.”

Blow me!

April 23, 2007

I’ve been so busy with the garden that I’ve neglected things here on the blog, that and the fact that nothing interesting is happening in my life.

As an act of desperation, I thought I would write about my annoyance with random mundane items, in this example its about washroom Hand-dryers.

What is it with Hand-dryers? They never work properly and yes, it is annoying.

The old style, push-a-button ones are usually ok, though in my experience they all too often have broken heating elements. Thus you get a gale force blast of cold air that doesnt actually dry your hands.

Oh, and that flap that you can flick to direct air at your face is super sensitive and keeps flicking up for no reason.

The most annoying ones are those equipped with a sensor to start them. The sensor is always in the wrong place! You have to shove your hands right to the back. Then when they do turn on, its blowing on your wrists! So you move your hands into the airstream and it switches off, its like a frustrating game off cat and mouse until you give in and dry your hands on your jeans.

There’s a third type that also annoy. These are a hole in the wall unit that combine soap dispenser, water spray and blow dryer. You put your hands in and it squirts soap on your hands. Next it sprays water on them befor switching on the blower. touble is the spray doesnt last long enough to fully rinse away the soap and the dryer doesnt stay on long enough to fully dry. Grrrrrr. You cant even re-start the cycle with getting squirted with soap again.

So there you go, its official, I can be annoyed by the most unlikely of items.

Daily Digest

Todays News.

I went topless again today after getting the car roof fixed on Thursday. Hurrah!, Love it.

Did you know that over 80% of humans with red hair or fair skin have a dysfunctional variant of the Mc1r gene? Thats right, its a Ginger Gene! and its dysfunctional 🙂 hahaha!

My brother “found” 4 scaffold planks and dropped them off at trevs, we used the curcular saw to make enough lengths for 8 raised beds on the Allotment.

I discovered that veg and flowers seeds are on sale at Netto for a fabulous 19p a packet! Even cheaper than the 29p at LIDL.

I sowed some Cauliflower and Cucumber seeds indoors in seed trays.

When Carphone Warehouse say please allow 30 days for your cheque to arrive, they mean it. Notification received 23-03-07, cheque received 21-04-07.

We had our first salad of the year in which we were able to include leaves from the garden, they were Spinach, Little Gem, Salad Bowl and Mint.

Mixing a few baby mint leaves into a salad is a brilliant idea!

That is all.

Feb Snow 07

Less than 3 months ago we had some snow, so its nice to look back now and relish the luvverrly warm weather we are enjoying.

However, looking back at last years photos I see that we actually had a day or two of snow in April so I should’nt speak too soon!

Just had a right good servicing

April 17, 2007

Oo-eerr missus!

Of course, I’m talking about the car 😉

It was a couple of months overdue for the service because I wanted a better deal than that offered by the main dealers here in Sheffield. Talk about daylight robbery, £350 for a service, thats one price of owning a Saab I suppose. Actually, we had a letter from Saab the other day advising of a recall due to some fuel pump retaining lug problem. I dont mind the main dealer doing this though since its free!

So, I found a nice independent Saab garage, recommended by people on the Sheffield forums and took it there. a much more reasonable £170, thank you. I asked him to have a look at the roof too, remember how I “broke” it a couple of weeks ago?

When I went to pick it up, although he had found the fault on the roof, he hadnt had time to fix it after doing the service. I’m taking it back on Thursday and the good news is that its a pin in the linkage that has sheared. Sort of like a mechanical fuse from how he explained it, and it shouldnt cost much more than an hours labour to repair.

Hurrah! We really need a fully functioning roof now that the weather is turning nicer.

And once its fixed I promise I wont try to use the car as a van again.

Ever!

Seasons Greetings

April 16, 2007

and by that I mean BBQ season.

Thats right! we had the first BBQ of the season yesterday, next door in Kev and Jon’s garden.

And thats all I have to say about that!

Pie in the Sky

April 14, 2007

They just advertised the return to our screens of “Pie in the Sky” on UKTV Gold. I watched this when it was originally shown, about ’95 or so, looking back it was just another mediocre crimesolving show, nothing special.

It did get me thinking about these types of show, I mean, they are basically all the same show (probably “Murder She Wrote”) with a different “twist.”

They usually feature an unlikley hero that somehow out-thinks the Police and saves the day. When creating these shows its usually essential to come up with the most unlikely occupation for the lead character e.g. Ice-cream van driver, Goat-herd or Undertaker.

Here are some of my favourites

Murder She Wrote = Novelist and Solves Crimes!

Pie in the Sky = Chef and Solves Crimes!

Father Dowling = Priest and Solves Crimes!

Hetty Wainthropp = Busy-body, old lady and Solves Crimes!

Moon And Son = Clairvoyant (& Son) and Solves Crimes!

Jonathan Creek = Magician-thingy and Solves Crimes!

Rosemary & Thyme = Ageing gardeners and Solves Crimes!

Lovejoy = Loveable antiques rogue who pulls jolly scams and Solves Crimes!

Judge John Deed = a Judge and (sort of) Solves Crimes!

Shoestring = Detective with a Radio station and Solves Crimes!

Diagnosis Murder = Dick Van Dyke and Solves Crimes!

Call Centre Cop* = Call Centre Manager and Solves Crimes!

I’m sure you can think of many others, please add them to the comments for us all to enjoy 🙂

*Ok, I made that one up, but if you come to work in my Banking Centre and try to nick any money I’ll get you! Right?
