Crappy Christmas Gifts #001

November 2, 2008

Grandad, ” Oh, look Mummy, one of those wee-wee things!”

Grandma, “It is, isn’t it? Oh, yes the wireless controllers, I remember something about that.”

Grandad, “…and it’s only £29.99 reduced from £49.99, I thought they were much more expensive than that last Christmas.”

Grandma, “Lets get 2, we can keep one at our house for when ‘lil Jonny comes to visit and one for his Christmas present.”

There’s gonna be tears all over this Christmas. I can’t believe they get away with selling this crap!

Happy Birthday to Dad

September 8, 2008

It is my Dads birthday tomorrow, he wont be reading this but I’ll say it anyway, “Happy Birthday Dad!”

We couldnt make it to his birthday lunch with the rest of the family on Sunday, so I suggested taking him out for lunch on Saturday. We picked them up and headed to the Wetherby Whaler in Wakefield. Here’s Mum and Dad as we chatted while waiting for our food.

Hurrah, my “Giant” Haddock arrived. I can confirm that it was wonderfully cooked, the chips were like Gran used to fry and the mushy peas perfectly mushed 🙂

On the way home we stopped off at New Miller Dam and enjoyed a treat from the ice cream van. The boy in the ice cream van had 2 hearing aids, he was very good though.

A couple handing out religious postcards were quickly rebuffed by me. Unfortunately, Mum opened things up again, “is it religious? I’ll take one, I am a confirmed Christian.” I then had to spend the next 5 minutes explaining how this version of religion is just a little bit kooky.

We then went for a walk in the woods along the waters edge. An Andrex puppy being walked by a couple caused quite a stir, I put my foot down, no dogs allowed in my house!

We made it back to the car with seconds to spare on the parking meter and completed the journey back to Mexborough, dropping off the parents, finally driving back to Sheffield and liberating a couple of Lagers from the fridge.

A succesful day and mission accomplished 🙂

The End.

Yay, we didn’t waste the weekend!

July 19, 2008

No, we didn’t waste another weekend, we went to the coast 🙂

It wasn’t planned, I first suggested this around 11am and after a short debate we made a plan. “Go and get in the bath”, I said. I’ll iron some stuff while you’re in there and then I’ll come and get a shave. Once you’re out of the bath, I’ll jump in the shower. slightly behind schedule we were ready and in the car.

The drive was good, Paul did it and he was well happy with the first long drive in the new car.

Cleethorpes 19th July 2008

We had a great time, it rained a bit when we arrived and we had to run to the cafe, after we ate it totally brightened up. We had a walk up and down the front and took a few photos on the pier.

Runner up photo, and yes I got told off by Paul for taking it but hey, I love the cheeky candid pictures, feel free to suggest a title 🙂

Team Andy’s Curry Club

July 18, 2008

NaBloPoMo July 08 Day18

Last night we ate out, for it was Thursday, which means Curry Club!

I’ve been promising to go to Curry Club with members of my team and had to keep putting it off, either they or I was on late shift etc….. It all came together yesterday and we managed to get 5 of us in the same place at the same time 🙂 (The 2 no-shows barely deserve mention.)

Team Andy's Curry Club

You’ll have to excuse the picture quality, I realised this morning that I left the camera on “close up” for all of them. So only the actual close up of the food is of a reasonable clarity.

The 2 NRI’s proclaimed the curry to be of a passing standard. The mango chutney however, caused wrinkled noses and was discarded after the first tasting.

Top left, food. Top right, Satya between Luke and Lisa, the mosiac maker was pretty cruel in cropping them out of the frame. Bottom left, Paul and a blurry Nick. Bottom right, Luke and Satya admiring Luke’s wonderful photos that are no doubt much better than these, if only for being in focus!

Sign me up

July 14, 2008

This sign was put up near to where I work by the Police. Obviously, that was the real Police, not the Spelling Police.

I know what you are thinking, but no, it was not me that added the “r” 🙂

Horsing around

July 9, 2008

No, its not todays food photo 😉 Though, I’m not adverse to trying horse meat, I’ve just not had the chance.

Horse&Cart 002

In 6 years we’ve lived in this house, this is the very first time I’ve ever seen a horse and cart on the street.

You can just make out that the driver chap is using his mobile phone. The fact that he actually pulled up to use it is, in my opinion, amazing. Despite the law saying that its not allowed to drive and use your mobile, this is something that most car drivers cannot manage to do. If asked to make one of those Mystic Meg predictions about my drive to work it would be, “You’ll be cut up on the roundabout by a Sales Rep or Dolly bird because they are too busy talking on their mobile to watch the road.”

I say, “Good on yer, horsey driver man!”
